Kenapa dan mengapa kita buat pruning keatas pokok sawit? JAWAPAN... mudah je kot...antaranya:-
1. Untuk mengelakkan sumber nutrients pergi ke pelepah,buah sawit akan menjadi kecil.
2. Untuk memudahkan harvester kalau tak susahlah nak turunkan buah.
Tiada pruning untuk pokok yang belum matang,hanya pelepah yang kering sahaja dibuang. Pokok muda ini memerlukan pelepah@daun yang mencukupi untuk proses fhotosynthesis.
Overpruning hendaklah dikawal jika berlaku akan menjejaskan hasil kepada kelapa sawit.
Pruning policy
1. Umur pokok 4-7 tahun 48-64 pelepah
2. Umur pokok 8-14 tahun 40- 48 pelepah
3. Umur pokok > 14 tahun 32 pelepah.
